Yeah, I haven’t written in a while. I just haven’t had much to say. Things are going well with the meds and with the therapist. Unfortunately I have to go back and have my last root canal re-done. The tooth has been giving me really severe pain for over a week now. Needless to say I’m not looking forward to that.
I have the internet again!

My cable modem is fixed. ( Finally ) The tech came out today and determined that my signal and modem were fine which meant that the problem must be with the node. He called to find out if anyone was working on my node, and of course they were. I missed a half-day of work for no reason. Grrrrrr. Everything is set for the bar exam this week at work, and more important than that, I think everything is set for me to get a permanent filling put in the tooth that just got a root canal. If I get that done successfully on Friday ( appointment at 1 ) I might not have to see or think about dentists until my 3 month follow up with the endodontist. ( end of October ) I’m pretty pissed that Friday was the only day I could get an appointment since I have to miss my free lunch with the head of non-standard testing for the Illinois bar exam. I also might miss what could be the largest Critical Mass ride of the summer if I don’t feel good after the filling. ( That would bother me more than the free lunch. )

Well, I’m not dead. But, it was basically hell. Instead of 1 hour, it took a full 2 hours. The doctor said it was exceptionally tough since the roots of my teeth are long and curved. Before we started the assistant explained many parts of the procedure, and told me about what was going to happen so I could be ready for it. What she didn’t prepare me for was the smell. In the early parts of the procedure I was lying there still trying to adjust to breathing with the dental dam in. (A dental dam is a rubber cover that totally isolates the tooth in question from the rest of your mouth. It also prevents breathing through your mouth, and if the doctor moves wrong temporarily covers your nose as well.) The endodontist was drilling the filling and top part of my tooth out to begin the actual root canal procedure, when I began to notice a bad smell. When you have no choice but to breath through your nose you can’t really escape from a bad smell. It didn’t take long for me to realize that the smell was being generated from the friction and heat of the drill on my tooth. All I could do was lie there. Feeling the vibration of the drill, hearing the sound of it inside my head, and then smelling the awful buring smell was almost more than I could handle. I think my mind sort of wandered off because I got though it somehow. Thankfully when we finished the doctor was happy with the outcome. For now I’m going to go home and hope that I don’t actually need to take the insane amount of pain medication I was prescribed.
Time to go

I’m getting a root canal in less than 30 minutes. I couldn’t be more nervous…
