Well I have no bike lock now… The upside is that I still have a bike. Through the vast power of the internet it has come to light that you can open almost any Kryptonite lock using a cheap Bic pen. At about 8:20 tonight I got my bike out of the storage room in the basement. Back in my apartment I poured myself a beer ( this part is important ) I got out the bic pen I brought from work, popped off the end cap, and took the guts out. ( All you need is the barrel ) At first it didn’t seem to fit over the barrel of the lock. I took a drink of beer and thought for a second. Grabbing the pocket knife I keep in my bag, I put in in the end of the pen and spun it around a couple times. Now the pen barrel fit easily over the barrel of the lock. Using the “rattle technique” that usually works for picking locks ( don’t ask why I know how to pick locks ) I was able to open the lock in under a minute. I have since opened and closed the lock several times using the pen. Needless to say I’ll be calling Kryptonite tomorrow to find out what is being done about this. You might be wondering why the beer I mentioned was important… The whole process was so quick and easy that I only took one drink of beer before I unlocked the lock. It will take a couple beers to calm me down over having to buy a new lock.
