Common Sense
I wanna know what happened to common sense. I stopped into Dunkin’ Doughnuts on my way to work this morning as I often do. The special for the month is a large coffee for 99 cents. I always get a medium because it is the right size for the travel mug I have. I made my way up to the counter and ordered a medium coffee. “$1.37,” said the guy behind the counter. Not wanting to confuse him and make everyone else wait even longer, I asked if a large was in fact 99 cents. He said it was and I said that I would get a large instead. “$1.09.” At the same time, the medium I originally ordered was up. I reached for it, the clerk took it back and said “You ordered a large.” I watched him dump the mis-ordered medium down the sink and pour a large for me. I wanted to save them a little money / coffee since I only wanted a medium, instead I think I wasted about $1.87 worth of coffee between the medium they poured out and half the large I will end up throwing away. Somehow I don’t feel good about saving 28 cents when it meant wasting $1.87 in perfectly good coffee.
